Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

BKW Mining (Pty) Ltd intends to apply for a prospecting right for limestone in the Phumelela Magisterial District. The project location is 40 km east of Vryheid and 12 km north east of Warden. The project site is approximately 1 877 Ha in size falling over the following properties: Farm Uitkomst 1736, Remaining Extent (RE), Farm Uitval 1737, Remaining Extent (RE) and Portion 1, Farm Rooikop 1739, Remaining Extent (RE), Farm Rietpan 1760, Remaining Extent (RE), Farm Goldia 960, Remaining Extent (RE) .

Expanded_Motivation: 

The utilisation of limestone as a product is dominated in four principal industries within South Africa namely; cement manufacturing, metallurgy, manufacturing and agriculture. Ancillary uses include construction (mortar, cement, whitewash) and manufacturing (glass, food processing, paper making). Limestone is generally considered a high bulk, low value commodities. Although white lime, hydrated lime and some calcined limestone types command high process and are readily available in all of the major cities within South Africa. The South African limestone market is exceptionally competitive which has led to the encouragement of product expansion and price stabilities.
