Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Application for condonation of unlawful work on generally 'Protected' site that is older than 60 years, Pinetown Station, Railway St, Pinetown CBD, Pinetown, 3620. Work includes: unlawful amendments to Entrance Building condoned in previous permit, and the addition of the following buildings built unlawfully since the previous condonation permit was obtained: unlawful Ablution Block, unlawful Carport Structure 1, unlawful Carport Structure 2, unlawful Seating Structure 1, unlawful Covered Seating Structure 2.

Expanded_Motivation: 

Pinetown Station is on the District 1 Line of the "Old Natal Main line". The District 1 line was first opened in 1878, the station was on the original line in 1880 (as seen in the steam rail timetable for December 1880). The station is older than 60 years, and the following structures on the station are also over 60 years and have heritage value: Station Building, Tuckshop Building, Store Building, Male Ablution Building and Female Ablution Building. A description of the illegal work on the site is outlined below: Entrance, less than 60 years old Building repainted grey and blue since last condonation permit was obtained. Ablution block- South end, less than 60 years old. Built since previous condonation permit was obtained -New in situ- conc. Surface bed and screed with steel posts supporting steel structure (rafters and purlins) of mono-pitched roof -Low masonry wall (plastered and painted) between steel posts act as back rests for timber and steel benches 4 -Plastered and painted masonry walls for ablutions with high vent openings on NE and SW sides Carport Structure 1 - less than 60 years old. Built since previous condonation permit was obtained Awning structure with 8x GMS white powder coated steel circular hollow posts supporting integral rafter/ purlin structure, integral fascia gutter and IBR sheeting. Carport Structure 2 - less than 60 years old. Built since previous condonation permit was obtained Awning structure with 4x GMS white powder coated steel square hollow posts supporting integral rafter/ purlin structure, integral fascia gutter and IBR sheeting. Structure placed on South West façade of existing female ablution block façade. Covered Seating Structure 2 - less than 60 years old. Built since condonation permit was obtained. Facebrick bench plinth with painted concrete slab, painted, for sitting. 2x heavy duty I beams as columns on short ends of bench supporting steel rafter and purlin structure supporting IBR roof sheeting. I beams fix to ground on concrete footing with steel flange Seating Structure 1 - less than 60 years old. -Concrete pained bench with masonry plastered back rest wall to purlin height 4x heavy duty I beams as columns- 1 on each short end of bench, and 2 equally spaced withing the bench’s length. Masonry back rest wall meets internal central wen of beam with side flanges sitting proud of wall. I beams support steel rafter and purlin structure supporting IBR roof sheeting. I beams fix to ground on concrete footing with steel flange. Mono- pitched roof.
