Changes to SAHRIS!

The South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) has undergone a generational upgrade and restructure. These changes to the site include, but are not limited to:

Following comments received on the proposed Revised Schedule of Fees for applications made to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA), made in terms of Section 25(2)(l) of the National Heritage Resources Act No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) and published in the Government Gazette of 22 July 2022, SAHRA hereby publishes the final Revised Schedule of Fees for Applications made to SAHRA. Applications for provision of services submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Authority (SAHRA), in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999 (NHRA) must be accompanied by a payment of the appropriate fee, taking effect from 1 January 2023

Application for condonation of unlawful work on generally 'Protected' site that is older than 60 years, Malvern Station, Main Rd, Malvern, Queensburgh, 4055. Work includes the amendment of the following heritage structure on the site: Station Building and Ablution Building as well as the construction of the following structures since the previous condonation permit was obtained: unlawful Ablution Building and Covered Seating, unlawful Covered Seating Structure 1, unlawful Covered Seating Structure 2, unlawful Uncovered Seating.

Expanded_Motivation: 

Malvern Station is on the District 1 Line of the "Old Natal Main line". The District 1 line was first opened in 1878, the Station was on the original line in 1880 (as seen in the steam rail timetable for December 1880). The station is older than 60 years, and the following structures on the station are also over 60 years and have heritage value: Main Station Building, Security Office, and Pedestrian Bridge. Additionally, the station is on a Heritage register, and protected as a Grade IIIA protected site. A description of the illegal work done since the on the site is outlined below: Main Station Building (Over 60 years old) No new amendments to existing station building since last permit obtained in 2016, except: Masonry double pier plinth and wall plaster detailing re-painted light grey Ablution building (Over 60 years old) No new amendments to existing station building since last permit obtained in 2016, except: Repainting building grey and blue New Ablution & Covered seating building (built since condonation permit was obtained) New facebrick ablution block with small high level openings on Northern façade. Modern ablution building with oversailing canopy structure (built since previous condonation permit was obtained Heavy duty steel roof structure (rafters and purlin with cross bracing) supported by heavy duty steel I beams. Roof sheeting no longer on structure. Timber slatted bench with central masonry wall between both benches. Covered Seating Structure 1 (built since condition permit was obtained) Concrete, painted bench plinth with low back rest wall 2x heavy duty I beams as columns- one on each short end 4 of bench supporting steel rafter and purlin structure supporting IBR roof sheeting. I beams fix to ground on concrete footing with steel flange Covered Seating Structure 2 (built since condition permit was obtained) Painted masonry walls to rafter height as backrest and perpendiculat to back rest creating 2x bays with painted timber slatted bench in both bays. Heavy duty steel roof structure (rafters and purlin with cross bracing) supported by heavy duty steel I beams. Roof sheeting no longer on structure. Uncovered Seating (built since condition permit was obtained) Facebrick plinth bench with painted concrete slab
